To enable:
1. Using SSH go to system/library/coreservices/springboard.app/
(for newbies, here you can find everything you need to know about SSH)
2. Download the K48AP.plist (iPad), K90AP.plist (iPhone 4), N81AP.plist (iPod Touch 4g) file to your Mac and open in Xcode.
3. Add the following line and make it look like the image. ( you can download the edited plists here.)
Note: some people have reported issues when using Smultron and TextWrangler, if so, please use the download link for the edited plists.
display-mirroring boolean YES
4. Save the file and upload to iOS device
5. Reboot iOS device (it might take some time before screen mirroring works, but once started it goes fast!)
6. Have fun with display mirroring!

Is there a similar file like K48AP.plist on the iPhone 3Gs/4?
There is, on the iPhone 4 the file is called N90AP.plist, but every test we did so far resulted into failure. iPhone 4 does not (yet) support display-mirroring.
After some further testing it does seem to work on iPhone 4! must have done something wrong last time.

I’m using a VGA cable and the resolution is native 1024×768 for landscape, for portrait it still outputs 1024×768 but with black bars, and the actual area with pixels is 576×768

Will it work with the ipod 3g? (in the future)
The multitask gestures works on ipod 3g, the multitask gestures are only for iPad.
A strange think.
It doesn’t work because the tweak is not in the iphone 4.
You have to find a file related with display-mirroring boolean and copy it to the iphone 4/ ipod 3g
You have to manually add it to the plist.
Follow the instructions above.
This also works on the iPhone 4, open the “N90AP.plist” file and manually add the “display-mirroring” key in the configuration file.

Sadly enough, you can’t, you need a jailbroken device, you don’t need Cydia, you can use PhoneDisk instead (this doesn’t need SSH)

I’ve done most of your instructions but you left out on how to get Xcode and how to upload the file back to the iPad. I’m partial noob to this so it would be helpful to have a bit more content.

Xcode can be downloaded in the Mac App Store, but when you don’t want to buy, you can use TextWrangler, in TexWrangler you’ll have to make it look like this.
Uploading it back is as easy as drag and drop in your SFTP client.
hmm.. ok.. i’ve just managed to download xcode 3.2.6 using torrent. I hope it make sense.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I tried TvOut2 a few hours back but it really screwed up my iPad. I’m connecting it to a 19″ monitor which I have lying around. Not only did it not display correctly, after disconnection the app caused the memory to go low and rebooted my iPad a number of times.
From your video, the alterations you made don’t seem to have this issue. I hope this works cos I’ve spent hours updating the jailbreak and getting the additional software.
I agree with some of the comments here. It should have been a feature from the start by Apple. I paid 99 bucks for the stupid adapter only for it to work with Grazing, Keynote, Numbers and Pages. wtf seriously.

Ok, i tried to adjust the .plist with textwrangler, but it doens’t seem to work. This is the ‘important’ part of the plist:
bluetooth

displayport
encrypted-data-partition
So in this plist I’ve added:

You might have a corrupted Plist file, restore the iPad in iTunes, and start again, you can download the edited plists above… they have been tested and are verified.

You can use iFile, but I suggest you rather download the plists and upload them to your device (I tried iFile once and it didn’t work for me…)
OIC ! anyway i have download plists editor for window frm u , but i dunno how to download to pc n upload back to my device ,thats why i use IFILE to edit n can reboot for my device already,but stil dunno work or not bcoz i not yet buy the cable, or u can email me to help me step by step ? i will thanks so much for ur help !!! i use cycberduck to download K48AP.plist (iPad), and edit with plist editor for window , after edit im cycberduct again to upload

For those who doesn’t get it running: Check that you have software version 4.3.1 (not 4.2.1 or others). I tried on 4.2.1 and it did not work. You have to update to 4.3.1, then jailbreak, then install SSH, then get the file & modify, and then it works like a charm. I’m on ipod touch 4, with a VGA adapter.

Works like a charm
works like a dream exporting my iPad to 58″ samsung tv. I did change the aspect ration to “wide zoom” it was almost perfect but I still have black bars on the vertical edges.
Another note… my cydia app disappeared? I’m not sure. Originally, I renamed the original playlist instead of removing the file and I added the downloaded .plist. I’ll keep you posted.
Does this still work with 4.3.2 now that there is an untethered jailbreak available?
